The Weight of Things

An inauguration ceremony was held at the Khaas Art Gallery on the 26th February. Hosted by the Dutch Embassy, it was the second showing of Naiza Khan’s compelling artwork. The commemoration was attended by Marcel de Vink, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan, Christa Meindersma, Director of the Prince Claus Fund, and other distinguished guests.

The gallery showed the artist’s current oeuvre, which draws upon her engagement with the fragile landscape of Karachi and its circumventing coastal terrain.

Earlier in Karachi, Naiza Khan, the co-founder of Vasl Artists’ Collective, had received the Prince Claus Award from the Marcel de Vink, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan at a ceremony at the Beach Luxury Hotel on 24 January. While addressing the audience, Dutch Ambassador Marcel de Vink quoted, “As I said earlier I see the exhibition is a testimony to a journey that you are making. You have found other forms and have translated these in different media. I am sure the journey continues and we are very excited to see what that will bring. Now we are all here to celebrate your exciting new exhibition, my congratulations!”
