Haider Ali Jan
Haider Ali Jan (b.1983) completed his bachelors in Fine Arts from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore (2008). In the years following his graduation he served as a thesis advisor at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi (2010-2011) and a lecturer at COMSATS Institute of Information and Technology, Lahore (2011-2015). Currently he is part of the visiting faculty at Beaconhouse National University and is the gallery manager at Taseer Art Gallery, Lahore.
Haider Ali Jan works with found photographs and images. He picks imagery from various sources such as history, media or popular culture. He then reworks them to change their narrative. The initial intent or idea of the image is tampered with, resulting in entirely different meaning and context. The artist manipulates the image by either being additions or eliminate different elements.
Haider uses the faceless Man to bring forth socio-political issues and stereotyping. The artist reduces iconic imagery to its essential form to show the strength and popularity of the images which are recognizable despite the reduction of detail.
His work was a part of Doppelganger, a group show at Khaas Gallery, Islamabad (2015).
