Ali Raza (b.1969 in Lahore, Pakistan) lives and works between Pakistan and North Carolina, United States. He completed his BFA degree at the National College of Arts, Lahore in 1992 and is currently teaching at University of Minnesota as Assistant Professor in Painting and Drawing.
Ali Raza relieves himself from the confines of a particular style and is known for his eclectic taste in art making. He draws inspiration from various sources as diverse as miniature elements to images of shami burgers available in local markets to images of spears and black and white typography. The artist exhibits ingenuity as well as flawless skill. Raza’s bold imagery is unfettered by any inhibitions. His work is an aggregate of several elements derived from Miniature, South Asian Art, and popular or “kitsch” imagery. No matter what the subject, the artist instills a certain irony or humour into his art pieces.
Ali Raza displayed his work in Origins at Khaas Art Gallery, Islamabad (2014).
